Courses 2008

On arrival at Sligo Airport on Friday morning you will be met by your Course Tutor, Peter Wilcock and escorted to your Self Catering Accommodation at Primrose Grange in nearby Strandhill.

After a brief settling in period, field trips will commence in the afternoon with the rugged and spectacular Atlantic coastline our first destination. Sligo is the heartland of WB Yeats Country or the "Land of Hearts Desire", and the area abounds with locations where he lived, loved and wrote; the magnificent and inspiring Glen Carr Waterfall is a prime destination.

The whole area is dominated by the spectacular Benbulben, looming out over the Atlantic like the bow of a great ocean liner, whilst the adjacent Horseshoe Pass is a must for the landscape enthusiast, with Yeats final resting place in Drumcliff at the foot of the mountain. The Glen immediately below your accommodation at Primrose Grange House is a hidden valley full of excellent photographic opportunities. No visit to the area would be complete without a visit to a pub for the 'craic' and both Lang's in Grange and Quigley's in nearby Collooney double as shops, a unique experience to have a drop of Guinness in the local shop and great photographic opportunities.

If the weather is bad then alternative arrangements are in place, a visit to the Sligo Folk Park at Riverstown will provide some indoor opportunities with authentic Irish Cottages and interiors on display. Your Tutor is an accomplished portrait Photographer, and if it is raining, and in the West of Ireland that can occasionally happen, then some of the local characters will pose for a studio portrait session.

After a full day out in the field you will be returned to your accommodation where after your meal, a session to critique your work on a laptop and projector will be provided. Your Tutor has an extensive library of over 200 Photographic titles and a list will be made available for you to choose your reading through the evening. The titles range from Fine Art Photography through Digital 'How to do' and collected works of famous photographers.

Sunday evening will be a chance for a last get together and a visit to the pub for a Traditional music session, before being collected on Monday morning for your flight home . Wet weather gear and good footwear are essential.
